Last Saturday [April2023] I had the pleasure of being at The festival of the Moors and Christians which takes place in Alcoy every year. Alcoy is a large Spanish town. Which is located inland from the coastal resorts of Costa Blanca. It is the most important event of the year in Alcoy. Hope my images do the event justice.
A day I will never forget.
A day I will never forget.
This festival celebrates the wars from the 8th to the 15th century. The parade I witnessed was all to do with the capture of the city by the Moors army and later regained by Christian troops.
An amazing event with a spectacular parade which snakes itself through the narrow streets. Only downside to a busy event it is very hard to get quality food or drink. Everywhere is full. Take your own packed lunch.
Alcoy was attacked by the Moors. Who were led by Al-Azraq. It is said Saint George arrived to save the city. The locals built a temple in his honour and every year they celebrate their freedom.
TO be honest I enjoyed the Moors part of the procession. More noise and re-enactment.
