The Basilica is the first thing you notice when you enter the square.To right is 300ft tall Campanile St Mark's Campanile.Look out for the Doge palace.
The Square is very quick to flood.When the sea is high
from heavy rain the water from the lagoon pours into the piazza.Normally the water runs straight into the Grand canal.

St Marks has been the centre of Venetian life for close on a thousand years.The Square you see from my images was built in the 12 century.
