Rain Rain does not need to be a pain First full day at Tummel Valley Holiday Park and surrounding area. Today the weather has been duff but we have got out and about. After a lazy morning we headed to Pitlochry. We had lunch at the The Sandwich Bar. Good good. After being trailed round the local shops we had a couple of drinks in the Oldmill Inn . Nice place -not cheap but Pitlochry is a tourist magnet. Late in the afternoon we headed to Killiecrankie. Famous battle in Scottish history. Jacobite victory. We have visited many times.
We enjoyed the short walk to the Soldier's Leap – the spot where a Redcoat soldier leapt 18ft across the raging River Garry, fleeing the Jacobite army.
We continued on the path for about a mile to reach the southern end of the Pass of Killiecrankie. Passing the viaduct.
Here we spotted a money wishing tree. Over the years people would hammer coins into the st up hoping evil spirits would stay away. Nice walk but would have been better on a sunny day. We walk back to the visitors centre. We usually find the car park full today we were on our own. The fair weather tourist must have stayed in doors.
Our next stop was on the Garry bridge to take images for the website. Great place to photograph. Big tree country-Perthshire at its best. I have taken pictures here at every season of the year. I love Autumn.Seeing the trees with their golden coat on.
Time to head back to the caravan. Bit wet but still fun

Today we left the caravan site. Our plan was to go for lunch at the Rannoch station tearoom.I called and booked for 1.00pm
Its a tearoom that sits on the platform at the remote Rannoch Station. It served us a great lunch. Next door, in the former waiting room, is a great wee museum about the area. Been before but the tearoom was shut.
Our drive started by following river Tummel. Which flows into Loch Rannoch. We passed through Kinloch. Then took the northern side road all the way to the tea room. It took an hour to reach. After our super soup and banoffee pie we walked to loch Laidon. Beautiful setting. Loch Laidon is stunning.

Perthshire has not let us down even a red squirrel.Sad to say no chance to capture it. It s known as the big tree country but it has lots more.
Tummel valley caravan site is in beautiful setting and a great base.
The club house and the site is a magnet for kids.Plenty for them to do. For us it is fine.Food is ok. Steak pie is tops. Ages since we have stayed in a caravan.Really enjoying it but it s a base for us.
Perthshire does not get the hype other highland area s get. So more to see than big tree s. Here's some more images from our trip.

Well. Our last full day in Perthshire.Scotland's Big tree country.
After breakfast we went for a walk up to Tummel bridge. Lovely part of our country. We then took a drive to Aberfeldy through wonderful countryside. We stoped for great views, pheasants and to view Castle Menzies. We even stopped to take a photo of the village Dull's road sign.
When we arrived in the town of Aberfeldy we walked down to the River Tay. Here we walked over Wade's bridge. The town of Aberfeldy did not exist when General Wade replaced the ferry with a bridge over the Tay in 1733. Still used today.
The Black Watch Regiment was first assembled near Wades Bridge in May 1740. There is a monument to the Black Watch a short distance from the Bridge.
By now it was time for lunch. We enjoyed a toastie in the Fountain bar.Which is on the Square. After that we headed straight back to Tummel valley. Tonight we had dinner in the Auld Smiddy Inn. Along in Pitlochry. Great food . Tomorrow we head home to Clydebank.
