Pompeii was buried by the eruption of Vesuvius in AD 79. Pompeii is probably the most famous archaeological site on our planet. We visited it while on holiday in Sorrento. Simple to get to.Just use the local train. Which runs from Sorrento to Naples.
Pompeii was an everyday working town which had been in existence for several centuries. It was home to tradesmen and farmers, with the rich and poor living side by side. Among those recorded in evidence around the archaeological site are bakers, house-painters, soldiers, wives, children, slaves and prostitutes. The elegance of some of the town's villas proves the Pompeii was, or had been, home to some very wealthy families.
