Lovely Luneburg
We took a short road trip down to Luneburg.Picturesque town about 20 mins drive from Hamburg. The weather was wet but we still enjoyed our short time. Lüneburg is set on the Ilmenau river in the federal state of Lower Saxony.
Like most towns in Germany Luneburg has a Christmas market and very good one too.
Lüneburg has been twinned with Sconthorpe in Lincolnshire since 1960.
Hope my images gives you an idea of what the town is like.
Shame about the weather.
Shame about the weather.
The Hanseatic League was an association of north European towns that dominated trade from London in the west to Flanders, Scandinavia, Germanic Baltic towns, and Novgorod in the east.
Lüneburg has the highest pub concentration in Germany and the second biggest in Europe, right after Madrid. Many of the 350 bars, restaurants and pubs are located in the city centre and are set in historic buildings.
The city hall of Lüneburg has suffered no war damage, so it is still equipped with magnificent art treasures.
