I took these images in Helensburgh 1999. We took a tour to see the Sugar boat and over to Greenock to see the Queen Elizabeth 2. Great memories.
Have you ever been in Helensburgh and wondered about the strange steel shape in the Forth of Clyde.
Its`known as "the sugar boat" by the locals.
It lies on a sandbank and the Greek cargo ship is called Captayannis.
27th January 1974- There was bad storm which blew the vessel from its anchor which caused it to collide with a BP tanker. The tanker suffered no damage but the anchor chains holed the sugar boat allowing water to pour in.
