Renfrew Ferry
Another spare day. So another chance to visit somewhere local.
This time, let me take you back forty years. Our first home was in
Renfrew. We stayed in a flat on Broadloan. Above the Crosskeys pub.
So many great memories, great Neighbours and fun times in the pub below us. Sadly the CrossKey's went downhill and closed down. Shame.

I started by walking from Clydebank to Yoker. I didn't have long to wait for the small tub like boat. The Erskine, White inch, Partick, Govan and Finnieston ferries have all stopped.
With the new bridge in Clydebank being built there is a rumour the Renfrew ferry is going to be shut down. I was speaking to the ferry operator and he says no.

The trip across the river Clyde only takes about 5 minutes.Good views up and down the river. When we crossed 40 years ago it was a chain ferry. It was jammed packed at peak times to carry the Ship workers.
The 24 hours service was useful for shift workers and partygoers heading home after a night in the bar.

After docking on the Renfrew side. I walked to the cross. One of our favourite haunts has gone. Loved a night out in Winstons.
Most off our favourites are still there. Cottons,Blackbull and the Wallace bar are still there. Pleased to see the Italian Restaurant
Piccolo Mondo is open. Nice place.

I walked on to see where we stayed 40-years ago. Nothing much had changed. The pet shop had gone. We needed there for our tropical fish.
The barber was there. If it's the same guy he would have shock looking at the length of my hair now.

I walked on as far the popular Glynhill hotel. Smart place.
On the way back I looked forward to a beer in the Ferry inn but sadly it has closedown. Favourite watering hole after work.
Well that's my time back in Renfrew. The ferry turned up and travelled across to Yoker and a walk home to Clydebank.
Good wee trip back in time to the 80s.
