Dundrennan Abbey
Built in 12th century. This Cistercian Abbey is where Mary, Queen of Scots, spent her last night in Scotland. Not far from the Abbey Mary left to sail across
the Solway firth to Maryport. Not long after that she was murdered by supporters of Queen Elizabeth.
Today the Abbey is another high point in a visit to Dumfries and Galloway.
The Abbey is now a ruin as the village of Dundrennan has gain considerable by recycling the building material.
