He returned home but so many didn`t.
Auschwitz-Birkenau, Poland
From Krakow I took a day trip to one of the saddest places on the planet.
largest single mass murder in the history of the world.
1.1 million people died at Auschwitz. Most were Jews but not all.
Today the death camp is an important historical area.Visitors get the chance to reflect on the monumental horrors that occurred during the genocide.

Sad to say I have never visited the famous prisoner of war camp.Mrs B visited along with my brother in law Alan. They really enjoyed their time at the castle and museum. It is known as the ‘bad boys camp’ due to the many escape bids. Perched above a sleepy town of the same name. Not too far from the city of Dresden.
The Eagle’s Nest was intended to fulfill representational purposes and was a gift to Adolf Hitler for his 50th birthday. Hitler however visited the Eagle’s Nest only a few times. We visited while staying in Berchtesgaden.

Formerly known as Höhlgangsanlage 8 (Ho8), the tunnel complex is dug deep into the hillside within St Peter’s Valley and was originally intended to be a barracks and ammunition store for the occupying forces. It took nearly three and a half years to build, with the work being carried out by forced and slave labourers who were brought to the Island from all over Europe

Annelies Marie Frank, (born June 12, 1929-died March 1945
My image is from a trip to Amsterdam. She was famed for writing a diary about her life during German occupation of Holland.A young Jewish girl who was forced into hiding during World War II.On her 13th birthday, Anne was given a diary. 1944, the Nazis raided the Prinsengracht 263 and found the hiding place. They took the 8 people in hiding to Westerbork – a camp that held Jewish people and others captive – in Holland. A month later, they were sent to Auschwitz, a larger concentration camp* in Poland. Men and women were separated. Eventually, Anne and her sister Margot were separated from their mother and sent to another concentration camp Bergen-Belsen, on a crowded train. It is believed that they died of typhus.
