Geneva--2 day trip
French speaking part of Switzerland. Strange going to a country
that speaks another countries language. Other parts speak German and Italian.
I saw the cheap flights to the Swizz city and I grabbed them. Out 7 am and back 10pm but as I have explained at the bottom of the page things did not go to plan.

Lots of things to see in Geneva.
If you are flying in- book a day pass for the public transport.
Use the ticket machine. Easy to workout at Airport.

First thing I did was to walk over the Pont du Mont-Blanc. Or as they call it the Mont Blanc Bridge. I walked through the busy promenade. The place was buzzing with locals enjoying the sunshine. Plenty of places to have a drink to cool you down.
Jet d’Eau fountain is a 140-metre-high water jet. The symbol of Geneva. As seen on the backdrop of the TV programme-- The Champions. Every vistor wants their photo taken with the famous fountain in the background. I had the fortune of walking along the pier to see the fountain close up with out getting soaked.
After Jet d’Eau I headed to the old town. This area is dominated by St. Peter's Cathedral, the centre of the Reformation in Switzerland. There are lots of small cobblestone streets, small squares and historic buildings. The cool part of the city. To cut cost. I skipped having lunch here.
After lunch in the new town I decided to walk along the banks of the lake. Stunning. There is a metal sign pointing out the hills and mountains you can see around the city. Sadly it was too hazy. So you could hardly see Mount Blanc. Could just see it`s snow covered peak.
Gives you a chance to see Jet d'Eau from the other side and look over to St. Peter's Cathedral.
There are many interesting items on route.
One word of warning there are lots of small flies there. They were a nuisance but never spoiled my walk.

At teatime I had to head back to the Airport for my flight home.
After a while my flight was cancelled. So it was back to the city centre to look for a hotel. I picked the Bernina. It was across from the main station.

Saturday
After a large breakfast I went out to explore. Not so hot in the morning. I had a look at the free tourist map and made a plan to try to see things I hadn`t seen before. It`s a big city there is lots to see.
The road that the station is on is called the Rue de Lausanne.
Long straight road with cafes and bars and local shops on it.
I went passed the Parc Moynier. Then on to the Botanic Gardens where the road turns left at the WTO building.
The World Trade Organization (WTO) deals with the global rules of trade between nations. Its main function is to ensure that trade flows as smoothly. Impressive building.

Here you turn left onto Av de la Paix. Walked passed the local railway station. Few metres up is the Peace gate at the entrance to the United Nations building. Here is a photo opportunity to capture the The flags of the UN member states. There are sightseers from all over the world snapping away.
Seat of Peace better known as the Broken chair.
It stands 12 metres high. It`s statue of a chair with three perfect legs and one broken.
It is a symbol for peace; a protest against cluster bombs and landmines. The Broken Chair was created in 1997.

After UN I had a long walk through Parc Moynier. Down to the lake.
Then walked along some less crowded street. Seeing the locals going about their daily duties. Lovely day now. After lunch I wandered through the city centre. Then it was back to the Airport for flight home. Geneva is well worth a visit and the hassle of the cancelled flight didn`t spoil my memories.

One day trip turned into two
Easyjet or not too Easyjet.
Good morning from Geneva .Daytrip is now two day trip. After six hours at AIrport and 4 notices of delay. 10.30 they cancelled flight. I got a leaflet telling me I had to down load app and change flight and how to get out of airport. I had no signal on phone.
Panic .I took a train into city centre. Booked into a hotel 170 euro s -- Then up to room to use wifi and book flight for tonight. Having to use card to buy food. Anyway got another day in the sunshine with the thought of having another fun evening at airport. Thank you Easyjet for cheap flight and refund of expenses. I hope
