Erding
Monday 4th Sept
Here is my diary from our new adventure.
We left Edinburgh bang on time and arrived in Munich a few minutes early. We met up with Mrs B`s brother at the airport.
Alan had picked up our hired car. A Volkswagen Sharan.
Perfect for our adventure.
Our first night we stayed in the town of Erding. A town in Bavaria. Not too far from the Airport. Our hotel was the Best Western. Right In the centre of the town. Perfect

Chiemsee lake
Tuesday 5th September
In the morning we walked into town and had breakfast in a local cafe.Fron there we drove at Chiemsee lake. "Bavarian Sea" lake, located between Munich and Salzburg.

Bad Reichenhall was our base for the next six days.
We had been to the city before and we really enjoyed it. It was
great to be back.
We stayed at the Avalon Hotel. We all really enjoyed our stay there. Right across from the main railway station.

The image above is our local bar for the next 7 days. Well the nearest pub to our hotel. Great place, good food and friendly staff.

Salzburg
Wednesday 7th September
Today we visited the Austrian city of Salzburg. Which is not far from our base. Salzburg is the city where and the shooting location for "The Sound of Music". The narrow lanes and broad squares of this baroque city make it special.

Mozart's birthplace is one of my favorite cities. I loved the heart of the Old City but it can be expensive to eat. So we crossed the river Salzach to have lunch.

St Wolfgang
Thursday 6th September
Pub with a view. St Wolfgang Austria. The town is a beautifully rustic market town on the shores of the Wolfgangsee lake. It has picturesque lakefront church. Sadly the parking is a problem.

Rosenheim Beer Festival was brilliant. So much fun. Great watching
the locals dressed in the Bavarian costume. Beer and music makes it even more enjoyable. More on my webpage.

Friday Grossglockner Mountain Pass.
This was my favorite day. We had to cancel this roadtrip last year due to bad weather. There was no problem this year. Really sunny day. The visibility was great. Super for taking images of the stunning scenery.
Alan mastered the curves,corners and crazy bikers very well.

Thumsee lake
That night we had dinner beside the Thumsee lake. It was strange eating trout while watching the fish swimming in the lake.

Kehlsteinhaus
Saturday -We went to the Eagles Nest. Kehlsteinhaus is a Nazi-constructed building. Erected on summit of Kehlstein. G Bee was very interested here. He loves the history of World war 2.

Sunday
We walked on the mountains near Bad Reichenhall.
We took the Predigtsuthl cable car up to the top. The Cable Car has been in operation since 1928 and is the second oldest working in the world.

Monday 11th We fly home.
Good bye Bad Reichenhall it has been amazing. Hopefully we will return soon . Big huge thank you to Alan for his planning and his professional driving. Great fun week with Mrs B and Gee Bee.
