Someone came to your house seeking shelter and food, you must welcome them.
1692 The village was a stronghold of the clan MacDonald. King William asked all the highland clans to sign an oath of allegiance to the throne . The oath from the head of the MacDonald clan arrived late and was rejected.
Like good Scots, the MacDonalds took in a Campbell-led regiment. Which had arrived in Glencoe.
For two weeks, they fed, housed and entertained the soldiers, Hoping the relationship between them and the Campbells might improve.
Early the following morning, February 13, 1692, the soldiers returned the kindness by massacring their hosts, killing 38 of them in their homes and driving 40 more women and children into the hills to die of exposure.

Walking in Glencoe
Serious hill walkers love Glencoe. Buachaille Etive Mor below stands proudly at the entrance to the glen. The highest peak is the Bidean nam Bian whose three great mountains rise impressively above the road and are known as the Three Sisters. The ridge of the Aonach Eagach is on the opposite side to the three sister. Michael Palin Tv programme about the ridge showed how dangerous this ridge can be.
Hillwalkers should always leave details of their routes.Scottish hills can kill

Take a lot to find an easier place to take images and video too. Ever season is different. The lighting any time of the day changes the Glen.
Clachaig Inn keeps the story of the massacre going with the sign not allowing Campbells.
The Memorial to the Massacre of Glencoe, sculpted by Macdonald of Aberdeen, 1883, a tapering Celtic cross soaring up from a rugged cairn near the scattering of older cottages above the river. Not far from the Clachaig Inn, a track leads over the Moor . It was here and in the vicinity that, on 13 February 1692, he and 37 of his clansmen were murdered.
Camped in Glencoe a few times in my youth. There were more campsites then .Woke up during the night.Went out of the tent and looked up to the sky .After my eyes adjusted to the dark .Millions and millions of stars. As if you were looking up to heaven.Never forgot that night.Must have been 40 years ago. This year in South Africa the sky at night came close but never beat Glencoe.
Dusk or dawn you must get out your camera
Meeting of Three Waters is situated at the foot of the Three Sisters of Glen.
