Great Sphinx of Giza
Well this page has been inspired by my grandson Carson. He is being taught all about Egypt at school and loving every minute of it.Last night he was telling his dad all about the river Nile.
I would like tell him all about the Great Sphinx. It does not get the same attention as the Pyramids but it`s such a wonderful sculpture.
Sphinx is a man’s head on a lion’s body. 66ft tall and 240 feet long. It can be seen from miles away- standing proudly in front of it`s more famous land mark.It is said to symbolize strength, power, and wisdom.

Ancient Egyptians built statues of sphinxes to guard tombs of important people and temples of the gods. Often, the head was carved to resemble a pharaoh or one of the gods.
- The Great Sphinx lost its nose either to vandals who didn’t like people worshipping the sphinx or to a cannonball in a war.
