Clydebank --Shipbuilding capital of the world
There is more to Clydebank than a world famous shipyard but let me tell you about the shipbuilding first. RMS Lusitania, HMS Hood, Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth, and Queen Elizabeth 2 were all built in John Brown`s shipyard. At its height, from 1900 to the 1950s, it was one of the most internationally famous shipbuilding companies in the world. Sadly Browns found it difficult to compete with shipyards in Eastern Europe and in Asia. 1968-- John Brown's merged with Upper Clyde Shipbuilders consortium, but that collapsed in 1971.Since then they don`t dredge the river.
