Another trip to Europe between Christmas and New Year. This time to Tromso, Norway. Trying to see aurora borealis.
Before I start to tell you all about our trip to Norway.I must explain what the Northern lights are.
Simple terms. The effects electrically charged particles from the sun that enter the our planet`s atmosphere.A spectacular light show seen in Northern skies.

The flights were fine.Got our first taste of Norwegian prices.
We had a Pizza in Oslo Airport. At Tromso we took local bus to the city centre. Unfortunately I took a tumble in the ice the minute I got off the bus. As I lay on the ground a local girl said to me welcome to Norway.

The husky farm is located in the snow-smothered wilderness of Tromso. We climbed aboard our sleigh for an exhilarating ride.
To start with-- I mushed and controlled the brake , and Mrs B sat on front and assisted me with the steering. Half way through the journey we changed position. There were a few nerve moments and a few choice words as we bumped our way round.
Great fun was had by all.
We were revitalised with a hot drink and a sweet cake in a teepee-like tent before returning to the city.

You Need Patience. Weather conditions in the Arctic are unpredictable. You should be prepared to spend 6+ hours out in the elements (cold, wind, snow, darkness) to catch a glimpse of the lights. You need to be patient to see the lights.
Day2 Walk to the Arctic Cathedral
Now this was fun. After a large breakfast at our hotel we ventured out.The weather was bad.Rain, wind, sleet and icy underfoot. The walk took about 45mins. Could have taken less but the conditions slowed us down.

The cathedral is a kind of focal point when looking around the city.“The Opera House of Norway. Nickname-similarity of the Opera house in Sydney.
At night we had dinner at Emma`s. Excellent

The Cathedral was stunning.Built in 1965. Inside is The "Return of Christ" glass mosaic.Worth the high entrance fee to go inside.
11 immense triangles of white concrete and this representing the 11 apostles after the betrayal.
Tromsø is located 350 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle

9 quid a beer--Stuff it --no long till payday.
Bastard Bar is a cool basement hangout with low beams and white, furry walls and bands (up to three times weekly). Showing UK and Norwegian football, it also has a faithful following of armchair-sporting regulars. I enjoyed a pint of Muck. The most famous beer of the artic.
Thank you Tromso it has been a blast.
