North Frisian Island March 2024
When Alan- my brother-in-law asked us if we wanted to go to Islands off the German coast I thought. Is there any? 
After a search on Google maps, I said yes please.
​Something a bit different and ended a lot special.
Here is a brief outlay of our trip in images and words.  
Monday 3rd March
This was a fun filled, family adventure. Mrs B,Liz and Eric flew into Hamburg to meet up with Alan.
Alan picked us up at the Airport and he drove us up the West Coast to the small town of Dagebull.
​After checking in to Hotel Neuwarft we decided to go out for dinner.
It was very cold outside. After a bit of searching we decided to eat in the hotel. Food was good. 
​We never had a bad meal during the whole trip.

Tuesday 4th March
​  Another night in Dagebull
Today was my favorite day. We visited Amrum.
I loved our journey over on the Ms Nordfriesland ferry.
​21  euros per person.
​Amrum is really special place. A charming small island with endless sandy beaches and dense sand dune landscapes. We took the local transport to the end of the island. Next up we wandered through the quaint village of Norddorf. Very picturesque town cente. Then we headed to take in some fresh North Sea air at the local beach.

The island is 10 kilometres long and 1.5km in width.

​After cake and coffee at the local cafe. we took the bus to the lighthouse.
​A lighthouse has been in commission here since January 1st, 1875. Its lantern, which stands 41 m tall, can be seen from 23 miles away.
After climbing up a sand bank I see an amazing beach. The sand is almost pure white. It gave the impression you were at the Artic or even on the Moon.

One of the nicest beaches in Europe. We were fortunate to have it to ourselves. My footage at the bottom of page will give you an idea of what I am talking about.

After a wonderful day we took the ferry back to Dagebull.
Tonight another great dinner and we all enjoyed a drink at Peters pub. Really liked it in there.

Wednesday 5th March 
​Tonight we stayed on the island of Sylt. At the hotel Mimosa, Westeholtzrland. We drove to Niebull .There we took the Car train to Sylt. ​For lunch we went to Gosch Am Fischmarket. Drinks at the smart bar Beach house Sylt and dinner at Jever Stube Gastatt.
Good fun was had by all.

Thursday 6th March
​Today we left the island of Sylt and headed for ​Buchholz.
On route Eric got the chance to drive on the beach on the island of Roma.
​ In the afternoon we visited the beautiful Danish town of Aabenraa.

Lüneburg Heath
Friday 7 th March  Hamburg  ​ Staying at the Hotel Eiche Buchholz.
​
​Full day in Hamburg area.
​After breakfast at a local cafe. Alan drove us to the Lüneburg Heath .The Nature Reserve contains the largest remaining historical heathland areas in Central Europe. Lovely walk​ to the highest point of the National park.

​We took a wee ferry trip down the river to Finkenwerder.
Had a couple of drinks then headed back to the city.
We had dinner that night at the Blockhouse.
​Love Hamburg. Hope to return soon.

Saturday Berlin 8th March   Gold Palais hotel, Berlin.
​Train down to Berlin. Easy journey on ICE express right into Berlin central station. Then tram to hotel. One of my favourite cities. 
After a short time we leave the Gold Palais and head for the tram.
Do a bit of sightseeing

Berlin television tower(Fernsehturm Berlin) is Berlin's highest landmark.
Reichstag is not far from the Brandenburg Gate, this building houses the German Parliament.

Sunday 9th March Homeward bound 
After breakfast we caught the tram into Alexanderplatz and the train to the Airport. Another great trip over.Big huge thanks to Alan for planning running the show. Eric for his driving skills. Liz for struggling on with bad cold.
