Wonderful Fife Coastal Path Aug 2015
We walked from the village of Elie to the seaside town of Anstruther. Wonderful walk of about six miles. Fresh air, exercise and stunning wee towns.
St Monans, Pittenweem and on to Anstruther - weather was superb.
The walk is well marked and sign-posted along the way, though steep and not suitable for wheelchairs in several parts. Stop for a snack in Pittenweem, or if you can hold-off till Anstruther, get chips at the end of the walk.

Located on the north coast of the Firth of Forth. Elie and Earlsferry has award winning beaches. Below is a photograph of Elie Parish Church.
Lady’s Tower
Newark Castle
Newark Castle is a ruin located just outside the town of St Monans. Building on the site probably dates back to the 13th century at which time the Scottish king was Alexander III
The castle was originally the possession of Sir Alan Durward, the brother in law of Alexander III, before ownership passed to the Sandilands family in 1545. A century later, in 1649, and bankruptcy forced this family into the sale of Newark, this time to the Covenanting General Sir David Leslie.

St Monan’s A picturesque small fishing village. Pretty St Monans has a historic harbour, looks out over the North Sea to the Isle of May. My favourite village in Fife. Very peaceful.
St Monans Auld KirkThe original church was started by King David II in the 14th century, making it one of the oldest still in use today, and is reputed to be the closest to the shore in the country. The church is unusual in consisting of an unfinished cruciform shape, and has an odd but pleasant stone steeple.
Fishing and salt production were once the main industries here, and the old saltpans can still be seen, along with a reconstructed stone windmill that was used to pump sea water up to them.
Pittenweem
Pittenweem is a picturesque fishing village with a lovely whitewash, red-tiled houses on the east coast of Fife. Very active fishing port. Pittenweem Tolbooth at the east end of the High Street not only the local parish church, home to one of the last and most infamous witchcraft trials in Scotland.

Anstruther
Fish and chips capital of the world. We enjoyed a supper out of a different chippy this time.
Really good and only six quid. Anstruther Fish Bar was too busy.
Typical seaside village with many of the shops in a long line overlooking the harbour.
