WoW --Another one of those days I will never forget.
My first trip on a light aircraft. I experienced the Loch Lomond seaplane but this was more compact and exciting. The day started with an easy bus journey down to Prestwick. My pilot and his friend Andy picked me up at the airport and drove me to the Flying Club.

At the club we had a cup of tea and discussed what our plans were for the day.Great hearing stories of great flying adventures. How to land on farmland.Hope fully not this time.
After much thought we decided not to land in Islay. Strong winds made it a bit dodgey for landing and take off on the island. To do a bit more site seeing was the plan.
This was my first [not my last] light aircraft flight.
Our plane was a Piper Archer.
Allan McKechnie [our pilot] certainly made it a trip of lifetime. Very experienced, well travelled and very flexible with the itinerary.
Really enjoyed. Sorry weather was not perfect for images.

First job was to take the plane out of the Hanger.
Safety checks and then we were off.
Take off was perfect along the Prestwick runway.
The weather was not perfect but the rain kept away which was an advantage for photography .
Great views down the Ayrshire coast.
We flew across to the island of Arran,Too cloudy to see the highest mountain on the island-Goatfell

After Arran we were given the thrill of flying through the clouds.Wee bit bumpy but I imagine in the winter it would a bit more scary.
Next up we fly past the island of Jura. Views of the famous Paps of Jura. Three great cones of rock.
Now on to the main reason for our flight. Islay,
Its not that big an island, about 25 miles by 20 miles. Usually you arrive by car ferry but this time it was special.
We could see the different distillery's from the sky.
White buildings and sandy beaches.

Ardmore, Port Charlotte and Port Ellen are all white washed villages. Port Askaig is a village on the east coast of the island. The airport stands behind the broad beach of Laggan Bay, halfway between Bowmore and Port Ellen. It was cool seeing village life from the air.
Homeward bound. Returned via Mull of Kintyre and up the Clyde coast to the Airfield at Prestwick. On route we flew over Mr Trump`s Golf course,Halfway house lighthouse and the heads of Ayr. Smooth landing back at base.230 miles round trip
Brief outlay of our flight.
We flew across the Scottish islands of Arran,Jura and Islay. Circled Islay to see the highlights.
