Londonderry
Welcome to my times in Northern Ireland`s second city. We enjoyed a few beers in the city centre, walked along the famous Derry`s walls and crossed the new Peace bridge. As a traveller I like to avoid the local politics. It`s hard to miss it in Londonderry. The city is still divided but as time goes on hopefully the people will come together.

The city was UK City of Culture 2013. A new footbridge was built across the River Foyle. It was called the Peace Bridge.
Below are the famous Derry`s Wall built in 1688. The walls are famous for the Great Siege of Derry. Where the protestant settlers were forced to the close the city gates to defend them selves against Catholic forces of James 11. The siege was to be the longest in British history, lasting some 105 days, When James II himself rode up to the city walls and lay down terms for surrender he was greeted with shouts of ‘No Surrender’. The siege was finally broken when the relief ship Mountjoy came up the foyle.
Derry's nickname, the Maiden City, derives from the fact that the walls have never been breached by an invader.

Other sights include the Bogside Murals found on the walls of what is known as Free Derry Corner and depict various events in the Nationalist history of the town.
