Switzerland,Germany and France- Three border adventure.
Friday 6th Sept 2024
We started this adventure in Switzerland.
We landed at Euro-Airport. The international airport which shares with Basel and Freiburg. Then we took the number 50 bus to the city central. From there we had a ten-minute walk to our digs..
We stayed at the Radisson Blu. Sad to say only for one night.
Perfect for a short time. Not too far from the old town.
Look out for the free sweets at the reception. Breakfast was expensive but it is Switzerland.

Basel
Really enjoyed this city. Walked around the Old town and along the famous river Rhine. This part of Basel is best seen on foot.
We took one of the trams as far we could. Right into France. A chance to see other parts of the city.

Today we took Tram 16 to the Bad railway station. Then train to Bad Krozingen in Germany. Where Alan joined us. He drove down from Hamburg. Which is in Northern Germany. Then travelled on to a small town called Staufen. Which was our base for the next week.
We arrive in Staufen. Which is at the western edge of the Southern Black Forest. It is 20 km south of the city of Freiburg.
After putting our bags into our digs in Staufen we got the local bus to the village of Pfaffenweiler. We had a special night, and we got to eat snail. Well a wee bit. Alan, he scoffed them down. Mrs B had a micro dot worth.

Walking in the Black Forest Germany today.
The name Black Forest came from Roman times. They called it Siva Negra. Which means Black Forest in Latin.
It is said that the Romans were scared of forests and saw danger lurking behind every tree.

The Black Forest region in southwest Germany attracts thousands of visitors each year.
Later we visited Freiburg City. Beer was good and a nice meal. Right on the main square. Across from the Cathedral. Weather was not perfect.

In the morning we had a wander round our base, Staufen.
What a wonderful small town. Then we took the train to Bad Krozingen in the afternoon. Not much to it. I had a beer in a bar at the station.
At night we had dinner in Muenstertal at Gastof Belchenblick. Stunning restaurant with charming staff.

La Petite Venice in Colmar is like a tiny Venice with colorful houses by the banks of the canal. You can take a boat ride. Like the Italian town of the same name, it is very expensive.
The area has nice restaurants. It's a great spot for a leisurely walk. Very picturesque area.

Look out for Colmar's Statue of Liberty. It is a unique commemoration of sculptor Auguste Bartholdi, born in the city, who crafted the iconic Statue of Liberty in New York.

Riquewihr was our next stop on our trip. Back to France. Another great picturesque town. One of the best-preserved medieval towns in France. We enjoyed lunch in La Dime. Very nice.
