Oban frosty bus trip Dec 2024
Another bus trip to the Gateway to the Islands. The bus is easy for me. The bus stop is five minutes from home. It was very foggy in Clydebank.
Main reason for going North was to experience the winter conditions.
I go up every year. Love seeing Scotland with its winter coat on.

The fog cleared just in time for Loch Lomond. The mountains had their snow caps on. Ben Lomond looked good. Standing proudly on the east shore. The road splits at Tarbet. We travel straight on. You turn right for the direction of Fort William.
It's not long till we see the famous mountain- Ben Arthur. It is better known as the Cobbler. My picture is not perfect. All images have been taken from the bus window.
Arrochar is the village at the top of Loch Long. Looked very cold out there.
Visibility is much better now. This loch for many years had a Torpedo Range. It has lay derelict since 1986. Sadly left to rot.
That does not spoil the rest of this beutiful area.

Next up is Ardgarten. Famous for being midge country during the summer.
The autumn weather soon kills them off. It's a winter wonderland now.
The sun is out and the land is pure white.

The Rest and be thankful has a line of mist running just above the roadway.
Theres always roadworks here. This roadway is known for landslides.
Luckly there is a military road which can be used as a substitute.

Through the fog we drive through the small town of Inverary. Which is on
the banks of Loch Fyne. The journey on is easy. Loch Awe was earie looking.
I struggled to see the castle through the mist. After a while later we pass the Connel and the Falls of Lorne.

I arrived in Oban in time for lunch. The weather there was dry but dull.
In the afternoon I walked up to Pulpit hill. Great place to see and take photographs of the bay. You can see for miles. As far as the Lismore Lighthouse. Good viewing distance for a dull day. The walk is well signed posted. There are a lot of steps but worth it to see the wonderful view.

I walk down to the centre of the town. Then along the front to the War memorial. I finish the day by having a beer in my favourite bar in Oban.
The Oban inn. The journey home is in the dark. So no chance to see the wonderful scenery.
A great day out. Hopefully return soon.
