Juneau Whale Watching Tour
It was a thrill to take to the Alaskan seas in search of Humped backed whales. It was an excursion I will never forget.
We left from the harbour in Juneau. Travelled out to the scenic Auke Bay. At Auke Bay we boarded a specially designed boat.
It had decks for close viewing capabilities for all the wildlife the area had to offer.
The highlight of our tour was seeing the humpback whales that have travelled to Alaska for feeding in the nutrient rich waters.
They can grow up to 42 feet in length and weigh up to 66,000 lbs. When they breach they can almighty splash.
When whales were spotted, our captain slowed down for picture opportunities and close experiences. I decided to film rather than picture.
Our tour took about 3 Hours

What is Breaching?
- Breaching is when whales and dolphins launch their bodies out of the water almost vertically. They then descend onto their backs with a huge crash. Humpbacks will breach during courtship, in the winter months.
The tour was not cheap but it was an Incredible Experience.
They are searching for whales everyday. Their knowledge
gives you almost guaranteed chance of spotting the Humpback.
Whales are creatures of habit like us and prefer certain feeding locations.
