Two great places to explore. The German town of Königssee and the beautiful lake Königssee. Very picturesque area in Bavaria. The mountains are high, the lake is blue and walking is excellent.
Königssee
This was our base for four days during our European Roadtrip.
When we first arrived in the village we got a bit of a fright.Alan parked the car and we walked over to our digs. The place was a dump. Looked like somewhere that should be bulldozed down.
After a few minutes we discovered this was the old hotel and was closed we were staying at the front. Stunning hotel almost on the lake.

Buy a combined ticket to go up the Jennerbahn (hike down or take cable car back down) and then sail across the lake on the electric boats. You don't need much time at St Bartholomew. There are two small restaurants and a stall selling fish pate and smoked salmon on bread.
Lunch at one of the Alpine huts-Beer and Apple Pie.
When we got down to get the ferry to Saint Bartholomew it was really beautiful with misty mountains all around. The whole area is renowned for its beauty!
Kessel Anlegeplatz
We wait on the ferry at the boat landing stage on the Eastern side of the Konigssee.

The lake is noted for its clear water and is advertised as the cleanest lake in Germany.
St. Bartholomew's is named after Saint Bartholomew the Apostle (Bartholomäus in German), patron of alpine farmers and dairymen. The church is located at the western shore of the Königssee lake. It can only be reached by boat or as we did long hike across the mountains then take the small ferry across.
