Charles Rennie Macintosh.
Mackintosh was born in 1868 in the Townhead area of Glasgow, He was one of eleven children. Mackintosh was an architect who designed buildings between 1895 and 1906. He often worked with his wife Margaret MacDonald. Together they designed everything from furniture to lights and wallpaper for some buildings.

​He was one of a group known as the ‘Glasgow Four’. The other two were  Francis MacDonald and Herbert McNair.
He changed the spelling of his name from 'McIntosh' to 'Mackintosh' for unknown reasons, as his father did before him, around 1893.

Sad to see the Art School has suffered two major fires. 
23 May 2014 — A major blaze tore through the world-renowned Glasgow School of Art. Four years later, a second blaze took hold of the school's Mackintosh building. All the restoration work was ruined.
​2025 The school is still a working progress. Passed it today <March2025>

Helensburgh--- 

The Hill House is in Helensburgh. A town on the northside of the Firth of Clyde. 45Minute train journey from Glasgow Queen street station.  Beware a steep walk from  Rail station.

Charles struggled with being Dyslexic. In the 1870s he was simply regarded as slow. Did you know Albert Einstein was Dyslexic?

House for an Art Lover Bellahouston Park Southside of Glasgow

House for Art lovers was designed by Mackintosh in 1901 but only completed 2001.We explored this architectural marvel. It's a great example of Art Nouveau. Superb intricate design and symbolic motifs.

The Macintosh house. Hunterian Art Gallery

Glasgow University’s Hunterian is the oldest public museum in Scotland and home to one finest Mackintosh collections.
​The house was on 78 Southpark avenue. 

In 1920, the Mackintoshes sold their home and all the contents to William Davidson plus the special designed furniture.
When William passed away. His sons gave all the Mackintosh contents to the University and the University purchased the property.

The original house was demolished in 1960 to make way for the university campus. Their home was in terrible condition so it was maved  everything 100 yards to a specially designed Gallery.  

​The principal interiors have since been meticulously reassembled as the Mackintosh House, an integral part of the Hunterian Art Gallery. The rooms strikingly illustrate Mackintosh’s concept of the room as a work of art as well as allowing the visitor to experience the environment in which the they lived and worked.
