How I fell in love with the USA
Many of my friends/workmates are fed up with me ranting on about my trips to the USA. There is something special about travelling over the pond to America. Theme parks,Hamburger join ts and Hollywood.
My passion started in the seventies when our Black and White telly showed cowboy films. How the wild west was won.
John Wayne was the dook and the Red Indians took a pasting.

Dirty Harry (1971), written by Harry and Rita Fink, centers on a hard-edged New York City (later changed to San Francisco) police inspector named Harry Callahan who is determined to stop a psychotic killer by any means.
The Outlaw Josey Wales was another of my favourite films. Rawhide was a popular TV show early sixty.
By now I was starting to get interested in America. Curious to see where these Cowboys were kings.

Few years later I was sitting in my mate Spoofers`s house.
His mum and dad were out for the night so we got the chance to play our music a bit louder. My other mate Potty was there too. He was the main man in Big George and Business Band. Sadly Potty has passed away. Almost time to go home and Spoofers older brother turned up. He had an album under his arm. What`s that Lp. We asked. Desperado by a band called the Eagles. We all sniggered and said oo everyone loves country music. Those days we loved Heavy bands like Deep Purple,Wishbone and Floyd. |
So we listened to this band called the Eagles. No bad we told Spoofer`s brother.
We listened to every track but would n`t admit we loved it. It was not cool to like bands like this. Forty years on I still remember the day I fell for the Eagles.
The songs were to us-- Country rock. American music

After hearing Desperado. We wanted to hear more of this new found band.
The Eagles released their debut album Eagles in 1972, "Take It Easy", "Witchy Woman", and "Peaceful Easy Feeling". Great American music. A kind of Californian sound.
On the Border was class and the Greatest hits was superb.

So I would say their Music got me hooked on America and properly my favourite band the Eagles. So many songs influence you.
Seems more cool singing about cities in America.
Well, I hope to-stand on a corner in Winslow, Arizona someday.

Eagles singer and guitarist Glenn Frey passed away on January 18th, 2016. We hope he's taking it easy in music heaven.
