Caerlaverock Castle   
Stunning.This was our first stop on our Solloway tour. Amazing castle.It must have been impressive in it`s day. 
The castle had a turbulent history because of being so close England.

This castle was built around 1270. The shape was unique.
The only triangular castle in United Kingdom.
It has two moats. One is still flows round the building. You can still see the other but with no water just grass. Still the same shape as when it was built.

It`s the seat of the Maxwell family.It dates back to the 13th century. It was revamped in the 15th century.

In the 1600’s, the Maxwell family supported King Charles the Ist. For 13 weeks the kings enemy the Covenanter’s besieged The
Castle. When the family finally gave up.The Covenanter’s ransacked the castle.
There was much damage and has never been repaired.
The castle is the same as you see today.
