Today I had the pleasure of visiting the popular People`s palace museum.
Of all the wonderful monuments in Glasgow my favorite is the Doulton Fountain in Glasgow Green. It`s the largest terracotta fountain in the world.[Still working]
The ceramic manufacturer Henry Doulton was commissioned to make it to celebrate Queen Victoria`s Golden Jubilee.
He used the students from the Lambeth School of Art to actually make it and unveiled it at the International Exhibition in Kelvingrove Park in 1898. After the exhibition it was moved to the front of the People`s Palace in the East end of the city.

At the top of the fountain is a statue of Queen Victoria.Under this are water carriers.Which spill water on to statues representing the Royal Navy,
the Black Watch, the Irish Fusiliers and the Grenadier Guards.
Next down-- the water lands on statues of the four main countries of the British Empire. Canada, Australia, India and South Africa.
So much to see. Next time you are in Glasgow Green have a look for the Doulton Fountain and it`s many features.
Sadly in the 60`s-- it`s condition became really poor and the water was turned off. 2003 it got a face lift which made it back to being a symbol of Glasgow.
