Well-- you are asking why I have added a film to my website.The reason is.
The film is all about an American that visits Turkey.It was released in 1978. One of my favourite movies ever. Certainly didn`t do much for the Turkish tourism.
The film was all about a tourist trying to make dosh out of the drug trade.
The real story
Billy Hayes was an American who foolishly thought he could smuggle hashish out of Istanbul.He was successful three times.
On the forth trip he was searched on the runway.Caught and sent to one of Istanbul`s most brutal jails.
After suffering four years of hell. Billy is about to be released when his parole is denied.He is given a life sentence.
The film is a warning to all travellers to play by the rules when in some one
else`s country.
In Midnight Express- Billy is played by Brad Davies but the real guy still does interviews and fights to make drugs legal in the United States.
Only his inner courage and the support of a fellow inmate gave him the strength to catch the 'Midnight Express' (prison code for escape).
He made it to the Greek border and onwards to the States. A lucky man to escape the hell of a foreign jail.
You should watch the film but don`t let it put you off visiting an exciting country.
