Walks by locals. Private Tours I am the guy with the orange bag.
Today I took my first walk as part of Walk by Locals team.
A American couple from Seattle. Full day walking and using public transport. We all enjoyed our time out in the city.
We visited Merchant city, City Centre, Park circus, Kelvingrove park,University,Art Gallerys and down to the Riverside museum.
Underground back to Buchannan street.
Great being backout showing visitors round our great city.
I was a bit apprehensive at first but after a short while I relaxed and interacted with my two new friend Madge and Ken.

History of my tours
For five or six years I have showed visitors around my home town. I own Westend Walks of Glasgow.
It is great fun meeting fellow travellers from around the world.
I enjoy the experience of letting tourists see my city close up.
I tell stories about growing up in town. Things like the time I saw the Beatles running down Hope street. Up Sauchie, doon Buckie and along a Argyle.--Corny but a good way to explain the main streets.
Will tell you the good side and bad side.
Fancy meeting up.

Today I took 11 Icelanders round Glasgow. A small church choir from a small town in the Westfjords of Iceland. Great fun
They are staying at the Abodehotel on Bathstreet. So we started there. They were ages with me so a bit slow. We walked along Sauchiehall street .Down Buchannan. Through the Merchant city.
Everybody loves the Duke,Copenhagen and the traffic cone.
Next we went back on Buchannon street. Great the buskers helped out with some cool music.
Crossed Argyll street. Stopped at the Times square pub for short break.
After that along the banks of the Clyde. Up to Trongate and finish in George Square. Easy tour with great people. Great to see people enjoying my city.

Back at Greenock to meet three passengers for a walking tour around the city. George, his mrs and Charles were from Pittsburg in USA.
All good stuff. We even had a wander round the Primark in Argyll street for a white shirt. George needed for his cruise.

Douglas was a very amiable guide, as quick with a joke as he was with interesting facts about Glasgow. He picked us up at the shop and rode the train with us to Glasgow where the walking tour began. Stoping at a few museums, lunch at a park table (our choice over a restaurant) and viewing the river Clyde all added up to a pleasant day. A bonus for me was he guided us to a clothing store where I got a dress shirt (I forgot to pack) at a great price! I recommend Douglas!

5th August.
Well. rained and it rained. All day.
We met up with Richard Palfini and his wife.
at the Almo hotel in the Westend. Right next to Kelvingrove
park. After a walk through the park we went to the University. Our visitors loved the Cloisters. Famed for Outlanders footage.
We walked to Hillend underground. As the weather was so bad I decided to get all day tickets for the three of us. Which ended a good idea.
Our first stop was Buchannan Street. To wander down the famous
street. Young boy was playing the bag pipes. Very popular. Tourist magnet.
Next, we walked through the Arch and enter the Merchant city.
I had to explain the story the Traffic cone on Duke of Wellingtons head.
George Square was next and the stunning City chamber. I asked if we could come in for a look round. No problem but stay to the ground floor. Info for you. Next time you are in Glasgow city centre. Well worth a visit.
Walked up to the Cathedral for a look inside. I explained the story of St Mungo. Crossed the road to the Oldest house in Glasgow.
We had to visit the famous Necropolis. The city of the dead.
Lunch was had in the Pipers bar in George Square.
It was great that the American couple I was with were fit and never moaned about the terrible conditions.
After lunch we were back on the Subway to get to the Riverside museum. They loved it there. We walked a bit along the Clyde. Explained about the history of the river. How we had built the most famous ships in the World.
To finish the day we went to the star of town. Kelvingrove Art Gallery. A great day was had by all.

Review: "Dougie gave us a great overview of Glasgow.. while being sensitive to what we wanted to see . He was willing to customize the itinerary to our liking. Dougie has an easy going manner and gave humorous anecdotes as we walked through Glasgow where he grew up and lives. A great way to learn about a city through the eyes of a local."
