One of Glasgow special days. I always make the point of watching the parade go down Byres road and along to the Kelvingrove park. So much work goes into the event. Local people with pride in their part of the city.
One of Glasgow special days. I always make the point of watching the parade go down Byres road and along to the Kelvingrove park. So much work goes into the event. Local people with pride in their part of the city.
Some times known as the Mardi Gras Parade. The theme in 2015 is Bloom. 100`s of people spend hours creating their own costumes.

Westend Festival is Scotland`s Mardi Gras.
A wonderful family event put on by the proud Westenders.
The Westend Festival lasts a month but my highlights is Parade day.I headed out at noon to see the street artists.They entertain the crowds till 3.00 when the parade begins.
There was a fire-eater,buskers, and the Scottish historical drum band Clandonia. They are always popular.

The Sun was shinning,the crowds were out and Byres road was ready. Time for Scotland`s Mardi Gras. The Westend festival.
About 600 revellers took part in the parade, led by six samba bands. What a wonderful display of colour . The sound of the bands could be heard right down Glasgow`s Byres road.
During the festival a wide range of activities and events take place. Programme of live music, outdoor theatre, comedy, drama, guided walks, talks, film, children's events, various local street celebrations and markets.
West end resident and founder of itison.com, Oli Norman pledged £15,000 to ensure the parade went ahead. Full Marks to Oli . Great to see the itison team enjoying the parade.

In 1996 a local Michael Dale came up with the idea of having a Byres road Festival. It has grown to one of biggest events in the UK. The carnival parade is the largest carnival event in Great Britain after Notting Hill in London. It runs congruently with the Glasgow Mela.
