Plane v train
A question the crops up all the time.Have a think about it and tell us what you prefer. As you know we have been travelling by different modes of transport for many years, each has it`s pleasure and it`s downfalls. I have knocked bus out of the equation due to time.
Even though we loved our time in America using Greyhound bus, years of travelling on public transport has really put me off.

If I could use a boat/ferry to travel. That would win hands down but you can`t travel over land. That's a straightforward answer to that question. Taking a cruise is only for pleasure.
Now for the main question--Plane or Train
I grew up near the centre of Glasgow. My mother took me down to the Central station to watch the steam trains heading south {so exciting for a wee boy}. Smoke was everywhere as they huffed and puffed there way out of the station. Manchester,Liverpool and London were some of the places on the huge destination board. Me and my mum talked about those places as if they were the other side of the world. Many years later I got the pleasure of visiting those cities. As time has gone on I have visited many wonderful places by train.Super adventures-Train across Canada by Via Railways and across America by Amtrak.
Even got the chance to travel overnight from Beijing to Xian on Chinese Railway. Last summer we had a week travelling from Slovenia to Switzerland on Glacier Express. Trips I will never forget.

Now I turn to air travel. My love of travelling by plane all started when I booked my first ever flight to the Spanish island of Majorca.
I remember booking through Blue Sky. Sadly no longer in business.
My family were concerned about me going up in the sky as no one in my family had ever flown before. How does that thing get off the ground? they'd ask. My mum used to tell the neighbours about her son and girlfriend going to Spain on a big bird. As time passed I was getting a bit apprehensive.
Then the day came and excitement took over. Taking off and landing were amazing. You got something to eat on the plane.Pure luxury.
The following year we booked up to go to Italy.Ticked the days away
till I was flying again.Totally hooked.

It`s still exciting. As time went on prices came down and people flew further. We have the pleasure of travelling to many places around the world. When Easyjet landed it changed the whole face of travel.Budget air travel was perfect for us.Ryanair came along with penny flights to Eastern Europe.Which was brilliant. There were lots of add ons but it still ended up a bargain.
Ryanair flights are still {normally} cheaper but their add ons have got out of control. That has put me off flying with them. If there is not much difference in price- we'd choose Easyjet. Today flying can be cheaper than travelling by train but is it better?
Well-To get back to the question--What do I like best?
Train wins it. May take longer but more fun. Freedom is the difference.
You can walk about. Not crushed in a small space. If you need the toilet you don't have to beg the person next to you to get out.
Maybe it's me but I have lost the buzz. Airport or Train station?
Station wins it for me. Part of travel is the journey. I love watching the world go by on the train. Last year`s rail trip through the Alps was special. I know it can`t travel over our sea but if we have the time and money I pick the train.
