The colour of the lake is caused by bacteria and the algae called Dunaliella Salina. Those ingredients live in the salty
conditions. Look out for flamingos who eat shrimp. They also survive in the lakes. Sad to say we couldn`t get close enough up photograph.

The Torrevieja lakes nowadays generate 700,000 tons of salt a year and continue to be a very significant industry for the Alicante area. Super to see large piles of salt. They look like snowy mountains.
