Table Mountain Capetown
One of the most famous mountains in the world. It's the back ground to most images you see of Capetown. Obviously, it`s flattop gives it it s name. The plateau is approximately 2 miles from side to side.
We had the pleasure of taking the cable car to the summit. Due to it`s popularity we chose to visit afternoon. Also got the chance to catch the sunset. We walked for about a hour. Really enjoyed the views and the fresh air. In Capetown the locals tell you photograph the Table Mountain there's no tablecloth on. The Tablecloth is the cloud cover which destroys your view. A lot of the times they close the cable car if the weather is poor.
Really enjoyed our trip up. We are so lucky to get the chance to visit places like this.

The best viewpoint over the city is the Aerial Cableway. It takes you up the mountain for panoramic views over Capetown.
- The mountain was named by the Portuguese explorer, Antonio de Saldanha, who in 1503 became the first white man to hike up to its summit, later naming it Taboa do Cabo: Table of the Cape.
The original name of Table Mountain was Howrikwaggo. Translated this means ‘mountain in the sea' or ‘sea mountain'
The most common animal found on the mountain is a mammal that resembles a guinea pig called the rock hyrax or the dassie. Although it resembles a guinea pig, its closest relatives are the sirenian and the elephant.
Table Mountain is one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature.
