Cool day out in Coulport 2022
Weather looked good so it was time to hit the road again. The last few weeks have been spent in the Helensburgh area. Ardencaple hotel in Rhu is a great place to have Mothersday/birthdays lunches. Today we decide to go a bit further.

We left home just after eleven. The sun was out and we were really looking forward to lunch. We travelled the same route as we do to Helensburgh. Passing the Dumbarton Rock and over the River Leven. When crossing the Leven look to your right. In the distance you can see Ben Lomond. Only if you are not driving. There was snow on the summit.Looked good in the sunshine.
Next up was the lovely village of Cardross. After that you see right down the Firth of Clyde. Stunning view. Sad to say --no Cruise ships docked in Greenock's Ocean Terminal. After that we drive right through Helensburgh.
We call it our second hame as we are here a lot.I have loads of webpages all about the town and the next village of Rhu.

After a short time we see the famous Faslane peace camp. The Camp is a permanent site across the road from the Faslane Naval base. It has been there since 12 June 1982. It protests against Weapons of Mass Destruction and the Trident nuclear programme . Trident is operated by the Royal Navy.
After that you come to a cross road. You have two choices. The M.O.D road right to Coulport or lochside road.We chose the second option. We are in no hurry and we are enjoying the views down the Gareloch.
We have travelled around 25 miles now.Next village up is Garelochhead.
It has a train station here. Part of the West Highland line.

We are now on the Rosneath Peninsula. Passing many wee picturesque villages. Clynder is one of our favourites.
We had lunch in the Creggans. Which is the bar in Kilcreggan. Which is a village Situated at the southern end of the Rosneath peninsula.
Be warned they have a menu with fancy descriptions .I had the Haggis and Mrs B had fish and chips.Really it was a haggis supper and a fish supper. It came in a cardboard box just like you get in a chippy. You can catch the ferry to Gourock here.

We are now getting closer to Coulport our final destination.Travelling along the banks of Loch Long. Wonderful views over to the mountains in Argyll and the village of Ardentinny. We stop and walk along the rocky beach at Coulport.
Another great roadtrip.
We take the MOD road back to Garelochhead. Drive home through Helensburgh. Home late afternoon.

Coulport roadtrip April2023
Another adventure to Loch Long. To the village on Rosneath Peninsula. Coulport.
We took the same route as above but this time we stopped at the Ardencaple hotel in Rhu. We enjoyed chicken strips in Barbeque sauce for lunch. Perfect
We had planned to go walking in Bridge of Orchy but had to change due to problem with car.

After lunch we drive along the banks of the Gareloch. Past the Peace camp and the Faslane Naval base. Tight security here.
We are at the top of this Sea loch. Next up is Mambeg. Here you can have a look over to the base. Shandon and Clynder are next up. Then Rosneath. Where we stopped for a few minutes to look down the Firth of Clyde..
Finally we reach Coulport where we walk along the beach and take in great views up Loch Long. We have enjoyed picnics here but today we have only a short time.
After Coulport we travel up the banks of the loch to Arrochar.
Where we stop for a drink and enjoy the view over to Ben Arthur.
Also known a the Cobbler.
Well it`s time to head home. Another great day out enjoying the views of Scotland.
