Stirling Castle
A great day out at my favourite castle. Garry, Mrs B and young Carson joined me. Not too far from base. The castle is visible for many miles in every direction. You can spot it as you approach Stirling.
You can also see the Wallace Monument in the distance.

The castle belonged to the Scots then the English. Edward Ist of England captured the Castle in 1296. The following year William Wallac s army defeated the English and retook the castle. A year on it changed over again but only for a short time. The Castle was in their hands until 1313 when Robert the Bruce won the battle of Bannockburn. The castle then remained in Scottish hands for 20 years until the English victory at Halidon Hill saw them retake Stirling which they held until 1342.
Scots held out for 20 years then lost to Oliver Cromwell’s army in 1651. The last siege was in 1746. The Jacobite army led by Bonnie Prince Charlie was unsuccessful.
