Garden Route
Capetown to Port Elizabeth
We travelled along the popular Garden Route to enjoy one of the most iconic journeys in the world.
The Garden route has many small towns along the way which are great for exploring the region. You can also return from Port Elizabeth or travel on to other parts of South Africa.
Here is a rough description of our trip.
Day 1 – Thursday
We left our digs in Campsbay [Cape Town] and travelled along Route 62 to Barrydale for lunch. Continue to Oudtshoorn. There we visited a working ostrich farm. Now that was fun.
Getting up close and feeding these wonderful birds.
After that we checked into Hlangana Lodge our accommodation for one night. That night we enjoyed dinner at the BlackSwan. Super night.
Day 2 – Friday
Next morning we visit the Cango Caves – one of the natural wonders of the world. After lunch we went to an Elephant Sanctuary. This was one of my highlights of the whole trip.
Continued to the our digs- Hog Hollow Country Lodge.
Day 3 – Saturday
After breakfast it was time to visit the Birds of Eden – the largest free-flight bird aviary in the world.
Overnight Hog Hollow Country Lodge (standard suite) or similar.
Day 4 – Sunday
We drive along the final leg of the Garden Route to the beautiful Tsitsikamma National Park. Enjoyed a walk along the suspension bridge across the Storms River mouth gorge which offers visitors incredible views and photo opportunities. Our tour terminated at our Port Elizabeth hotel.

From Mossel bay to Storms river-- a 300-kilometre stretch of the south-eastern coast of South Africa.Don’t plan a trip to the Garden Route expecting expanses of perfectly pruned gardens.
Above our route across the southern part of Africa .Great memories
It took us four days to travel across the Garden route by mini bus. The 10h 46min marked on the top of the map is if you drive right across.Rather silly cause you would miss so much.
