We had dinner in Markgrafen straße. Nice meal and a few beers.
My favourite beer is German wheat beer-Weissbier.

The birthplace of Richard Wagner. Bach also stayed in the city.
Popular place with Music lovers.
Two thirds of Leipzig was bombed during the second world war.
The city was hardly improved during the Soviet era.
Since the fall of the Berlin Wall numerous building and structures have been carefully restored. The city centre is now a lovely place to walk, with a pedestrian-friendly atmosphere, and a great destination to visit.

Regensburg Tuesday Aug 13th
After breakfast we drove down to one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Germany. We were not disappointed. It s stunning.
I had read a lot about the city. I got to do what I had planned.
Walk from our hotel. Through the Old town to the Steinerne Brücke Old Stone Bridge in English. Chance to see one of the most famous river in the World.

Bavaria’s Second Largest Beer Festival
I have been waiting for this day since we booked our flights.
Gäuboden folk festival was magic. We took the train from
Regensburg to the city of Strabling. Took about a hour to get to Straubing. The Atmosphere was building as the train stop at every stop.We followed the crowd through the town.
The event had 7 magnificently decorated marquees with around 27,500 seats. Sadly we only got to the first.

The night was brilliant. The band was brilliant, and the beer was even better. People were dancing on their seats, and we were singing very loudly. The train journey back to Regensburg was fun too.

Nuremberg has half-timbered buildings in Germany. The old town is still surrounded by the medieval wall that somehow survived intense bombing during WWII.
We had the pleasure of walking up to the Imperial Castle and having a beer in the Craftsmen's Courtyard.

Next day we drove over the border to the Czech Republic to the city of Pilsner. We had visited Prague many times. Which is one of my favorite cities.
When someone mentions Pilsen, you immediately think of beer but there is a lot more to the city.
We stayed at Vienna House Easy by Wyndham. Nice place.

Pilsner Urquell Brewery is world famous attraction. We looked onto Brewery from our hotel window. Sadly we never had time to visit.
The Bastei
A boat drifts along the scenic banks of the Elbe. It was great that Alan knew this Area. The Bastei is a rock formation rising 194 metres (636 ft) above the Elbe River. The highlights of our visit here were the viewpoints.
Saturday and Sunday nights. We stayed at the premier inn Dresden
It's hard to believe that the city was all but wiped off the map by Allied bombings in 1945. After the Second World War, Neumarkt square and the symbolic ruins of the Frauenkirche remained almost untouched during the Soviet before. Now it is back to its former glory.
It was festival time so the place was great fun.

Sunday -Colditz - We met up at 10.00 am. Then we drove from Dresden to Colditz Castle. The famous prisoner of War Camp. Which was also known as Oflag IV-C. I remember the castle from the BBC TV series. Which ran from 1972–1974. It was one of the highlights of this trip.
