Sunday 4th Sept
After a short flight we arrive in the German city of Hamburg.
One of my favourite cities in Germany. This website has lots of information about the port.
We stayed our first night of the trip in Buchholz. This town is around 25 miles south of Hamburg. My brother in law Alan stays here.
He kindly put us up for the night. He travelled the whole trip with us. He put so much hard work into the planning of this trip for which we are very grateful. His knowledge of European travel is amazing.

5th Sept
Train to Rothenburg .With changes in Wurzburg and Steinach.
WOW. This was a surprise.What a beautiful city. Now one of my favourites. Rothenburg ob der Tauber is in northern Bavaria with wonderful medieval architecture. Half-timbered houses line the cobblestone lanes of its old town. Really was impressed.
Pity we had only had a short time in the city but we saw a lot.

We took the train to Trento
We are back in Italy. Love Italy. Trento is a city I knew nothing about but left with great fondness.I think it is underrated town.The square is special and there are loads atmospheric alleyways.

Great night in Trento.We enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Ristorante Pizzaria Chiste. Andrea was our waiter. He certainly knows how to charm the ladies.

Next morning we took the train to Verona`s main station and put our cases in the left luggage. We took the local bus into the town centre. Busy place but we soon found the landmark we were looking for.
Verona- It’s famous for being the setting of Shakespeare’s "Romeo and Juliet." A 14th-century house
We stopped in Verona to see Romeo and Juliet 's house and for a bite of lunch.
We skipped climbing the stairs. Waste of money. We spent the cash in a lovely restaurant right in the centre of the city.

7th Sept Salo Italy
Next stop Salo. It is situated in a inlet at the southern end of Lake Garda. It is a quiet town in an attractive setting backed by mountain scenery and fronted by the lake.It rained a bit but soon went off when we went on the ferry. Nice journey on the slow boat. This ferry gives you a chance to see more of the lake.The fast boat gets you from A to B quicker but it`more expensive.

The next stop was Limone. What a wonderful town. Superb setting. Surrounded by mountains. This is our main base while at Lake Garda.
Lake Garda is the largest lake in Italy.It is situated along three regions. Lombardy,Veneto and Trentino. It has 25 picturesque villages. Limone is one of the best. Still have loads of places to visit but we are happy to have picked Limone.
9th Sept We took the ferry over to Malcesine. Then bus onto Riva. Looks a cool town. We only had a short time there.Then we took the ferry back to our base in Limone.
At night we went to the Hostaria Al Buongusto for dinner.
Super atmosphere,great staff and wonderful food. The three of us loved this restaurant.

Riva
10th Sept Malcesine to Mount Baldo
Today`s trip was to Malcesine and then we took the cable car up Mount Baldo. We walked along to the viewpoint. Garda in all its glory.
We took some time to watch the Paragliders- A mixture of adrenaline and excitement.Rather them than me.

11th Sept
Today Me and Mrs B walked along the Limone promenade.Great way to see Lake Garda close up.Enjoy the breeze and the beautiful mountains all around you.It is 2.5 kms long. Great views and great exercise. Maybe not.
We enjoyed a large two Scoop icecream.

We took the ferry to Bardolino and walked along the front to Gardo.
Nice walk.Really enjoyed the walk. Sunshine helped.

13th Sept Time to leave Limone. It`s been super but my time here is up.

Bamberg
13th Sept The city of Bamberg
Taxis,bus- train to Trento. Last of Italy. Then on our way to Munich where we changed train for Bamberg,Germany. It was a long day of travel but some times you have to put yourself out to make memories.

We arrived in the city just before dinner. We had time for a walk round the town. Great place with a special old town.After that we had dinner and a few drinks at a smart restaurant. Then went to a local brauhaus. Beer was super.Very strong.

14th Sept
In the afternoon we arrive back in Hamburg. We dropped our bags at the station and headed out to have a look at the city. Love Hamburg. It`s an exciting city. We didn`t have much time.We wanted to do something
different so we picked the Miniature Wonderland. I thought it would be boring but I was surprised. Really enjoyed it.

We took the train back to Buchholz where our adventure began.
At night we went for dinner with my niece and her boyfriend. Lovely couple.

Final day we had a super walk in Luneburger Heath. Lovely area not too far from Buchholz. Afternoon we drive back to the airport. An other adventure over. Big thanks to Alan for planning another successful trip.
Hamburg to Edinburgh Ryanair .Cheap but nasty.
Nightmare--turn up no staff at bagdrop. Line up was right to the door -- As long for the bag search .Then passport control.Then Lorna was asked about entering Germany twice in one day. Finally though.Sat down at Gate -- Now gate change. NOW delayed an hour. The bar is shut. Oh the now cancelled gate number. Oh forgot drugs search of case.A bad show
Homeward bound
BIG HUGE THANKS to Maria Mcphee for driving us from Edinburgh Airport to Clydebank on Thursday night. As I said we were delayed 5 hrs on our Hamburg to Edinburgh flight. Maria asked us how we were getting home and kindly offered us a lift. Great gesture.Saving us at a time of need. Thank you Maria
