Sir William Pearce, was a British shipbuilder, under whose management the Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Company in Govan became the leading shipbuilding company in the world. William was born 8th January 1833 and died 18th December 1888.

Old Govan Parish church
Govan Old Church is the home to the magnificent Govan Stones, one of the best collections of early medieval sculpted stones in Scotland. Sad to say it was shut.Not open till spring. 1st April 2025

A statue was unveiled at Govan Subway in honour of Mary Barbour. She led working-class women, men and children to campaign for fair rents in 1915. The movement was nicknamed “Mrs Barbour’s Army”.

The Govan Graving Docks
The Govan Graving Docks has lay empty 40years. It was built for the final painting and repair of vessels. 2019, Oscar-winning director Mendes filmed several scenes of his First World War drama 1917 at the docks.

Ibrox -The home of Glasgow Rangers
The football stadium is on the border of Ibrox and Govan. One of the Grandstands was named Govan but later renamed after former player Sandy Jardine. The current Main Stand at Ibrox was built in the 1920s to a design by stadium architect Archibald Leitch.
